Kayla Whiteknife Kent is a Buffalo Clan member of the Ioway Tribe of KS. & NE. Kayla is an interdisciplinary artist, designer, fitness coach, health worker and a mother of two. Currently based out of Lincoln, NE. Kayla specializes in pen & ink, acrylic & oil painting, photography, leather work, sewing and visual arts. Kaylas approach to art and design is grounded in her indigenous identity. Her pieces embody traditional and modern conceptual idealism, storytelling, elements of nature, symmetric forms with abstract color palettes. Kayla obtained her Associates degree in Community Health from Haskell Indian Nations University later attending the University of KS., where she obtained her BA in Sports & Exercise Science.

A mother is universal, a woman often finds her depths within motherhood, her ability and her gifts, the mysterious force of creation embodies the woman to nourish a child in her womb, and with that single force life renews often met with challenge, mothers are gifted each child with capabilities and offerings, each a gift and each an honor to bring to this world.
